چکیده

Fatal septicemia due to an unidentified gram-negative rod developed in a 60-year-old alcoholic. Infection due to this organism has been reported only rarely in the medical literature. Like Pasturella multocida, this organism is related to dog bites, is gram negative, and is sensitive to penicillin.

Septicaemia with a dysgonic fermenter-2 (DF-2) bacterium in a compromised host.

Dysgonic fermenter-2 (DF-2) is a newly described gram-negative bacterium that can produce serious infections in the compromised host. We are reporting a case of DF-2 septicaemia in a splenectomized patient with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. The clinical spectrum of infections due to the DF-2 bacterium, the difficulties in establishing the diagnosis and the preferential treatment are discussed.

Susceptibility of dysgonic fermenter 2 to antimicrobial agents in vitro.

Dysgonic fermenter 2 (DF-2) is a fastidious, gram-negative organism well recognized as a cause of fulminant septicemia in patients without spleens or patients with alcoholic cirrhosis. In vitro antibiotic susceptibility testing of eight strains with a Schaedler broth dilution technique revealed DF-2 to be susceptible to all of the antibiotics tested except aztreonam. Previous reports that DF-2 ...

Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndrome caused by a DF-2 bacterium in a splenectomised patient.

A case of Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndrome associated with septicaemia caused by a DF-2 group bacterium (dysgonic fermenter--type 2--Atlanta classification) is presented. Attention is drawn to the relation of DF-2 group septicaemias to dog bites (or contact) and impaired host defence after splenectomy.

Septicemia caused by the gram-negative bacterium CDC IV c-2 in an immunocompromised human.

A 37-year-old man with plasma cell leukemia developed nonfatal septicemia caused by the gram-negative bacterium CDC IV c-2. Recovery followed appropriate treatment with antibiotics. The biochemical features of this organism are reviewed.

Septicemia caused by vancomycin-resistant Pediococcus acidilactici.

A case of septicemia caused by vancomycin-resistant Pediococcus acidilactici is discussed. This appears to be the first reported case of septicemia caused by this organism. The characteristics and antimicrobial susceptibilities of this organism are described.
